    Frequently asked questions

Why do I need to install a condensate pump?  Condensate pumps are installed when gravity drainage is not possible to remove the condensate that has been collected from beneath the evaporator.

Where would I situate a condensate pump?  Blue Diamond is slim enough to fit into trunking, powerful enough for distant locations and quiet enough for ceiling mounting.  The Blue Diamond can be mounted in any orientation for ease of installation.

What applications can I use the Blue Diamond for? Typical installations include ceiling cassette units, high wall units, low wall and floor units, dehumidifiers, domestic condensing boilers, refrigeration drainage and analytical instrumentation cooling systems.

Where do I obtain the Blue Diamond?  Blue Diamond is available from all major distributors within the air conditioning sector and are listed on the distributor section of this site.  For OEM applications please contact our sales office on tel: +44 (0)1932 355277 or by email: info@bluediamondpump.com

Why should I pay extra for a Blue Diamond when I can use a cheap mini?  With low cost comes poor reliability and a bad reputation for the installer.  If a mini has stalled or clogged the call-out charge and warranty claim will eliminate any initial savings made. Other advantages of the Blue Diamond include self priming capability and higher performance.

What advantages does a Blue Diamond offer over a peristaltic pump?  The main weakness of a peristaltic is the tubing which demands regular replacement/maintenance as it will perish and leak after a short time.  The boxy type design is to bulky to be fitted into trunking limiting the installation and servicing possibilities.  The motor speed reduction gearboxes wear in use and failures are common.

How often do I need to maintain the Blue Diamond? Unlike other condensate pumps which require regular servicing of split peristaltic tubes, worn gear boxes and call-outs to stalled or clogged minis the Blue Diamond has a revolutionary pumping principle making it inherently reliable and is backed by our two year warranty.

What makes the pump so reliable? Designed and patented by Charles Austen Pumps Ltd is our advanced rotary diaphragm technology. The condensate is drawn into the pump by vacuum then mechanically driven with a reinforced elastomer diaphragm to the outlet under pressure this system even tolerates suspended solids and light slurries and also happily runs dry.

Why does the Blue Diamond have a built in alarm circuit? The built in alarm circuit shuts down the system in the unlikely event of a failure to empty the reservoir, eliminating costly water damage to equipment often expensive electrical hardware and to floor/ceiling.

Does the Blue Diamond conform to any manufacturing standards? All versions of the Blue Diamond are CE approved and accredited to ISO 9001 2000 and are 100% tested before leaving our factory.

What are the sensing options of the Blue Diamond? The Blue Diamond can be specified with two alternative sensing options the most commonly selected is the reservoir. This uses accurate thermistor sensing which triggers the pump to run only when the reservoir fills with water eliminating high running costs and the possibility of sticking float switches.  Option two is the "hot and cold" sensor which is quick and easy to install but does not have the advantages of the built in alarm circuit. The pump will run constantly when the air handler is on regardless of whether it is producing condensate.

Is the Blue Diamond suitable for larger cassette units?  With exceptional performance of 50 l/hr flow and a suction lift greater than 7m the Blue Diamond is capable of removing condensate from 2Kw split systems up to 60Kw cassette units.
